How Clair handles your details
Who we are
Until Clair is incorporated, JM Atelier LLP is responsible, for Clair, for the personal data described here. When Clair is incorporated, the firm passes it to Clair, which is responsible for it from then on. Write to our data protection officer about anything on this page at admin@clairsg.com.
What we collect, and when
The website has one form, the waitlist. When you join we receive:
- your name and your email address;
- your year end, taken from the checker on the page, and whether it is your first year or you have no company yet;
- what you want Clair to hold for you, and, if you answer, which of these you are (a director, a staff member, an accountant or a firm, or someone with no company yet) and who does your accounts today;
- if you tell us, how you heard about Clair;
- if you tell us, what would make Clair most useful to you;
- if the link that brought you here carried a label saying where it was shared, such as a post or a newsletter, that label.
The website does not set cookies for tracking. It counts how many times the date checker shows dates, without recording who you are or what you entered. It counts a few button presses the same way: adding your dates to a calendar, and the three ways on from the pricing page (getting Clair, joining the Clair Books list, and talking to us). The server keeps an ordinary access log, and it counts submissions from each connection for one minute so the form cannot be flooded; that count is not stored. A label of that kind stays in your browser only until you close the tab, and is saved with your details only if you join the waitlist. Like any web address, it also appears in the access log.
What we use it for
- To tell you when Clair opens.
- To decide what Clair offers. We send you news about Clair only if you have ticked the box to agree, and every such email lets you unsubscribe in one click.
- To see which posts and messages bring people to the waitlist.
- To understand, in aggregate, what founders did not know they needed to know. Your own words may be quoted internally; they will not be published with anything that identifies you.
We do not sell your details, add you to a mailing list you did not ask for, or pass them to anyone for their own use.
Who sees it
Your answers are stored in Clair. They are read by the Clair team and by the people who maintain the system, all of whom must keep them confidential. Our main systems are hosted in Singapore by service providers who process the data on our behalf and may not use it for anything else. Some providers handle it outside Singapore: the service that delivers our email. We require them to protect it to a standard comparable to Singapore's.
Telegram
If you link Telegram to your account, what you send there passes through Telegram, under Telegram's own terms, before it reaches us. We save documents you send to your company's record, and keep a copy in our Microsoft 365 storage.
Signing in to Clair
A Clair account exists only by invitation. Nobody can make one on this website. If you have an account, you sign in with a link we email to you, or with your Google account.
If you choose Google, Google tells us your name, your email address and your profile picture. We ask Google for nothing else, so we cannot read your email, your contacts, your calendar or your files, and we never see your password. We use what Google tells us only to sign you in: we check that the email address belongs to an account we invited. If it does not, you are not signed in.
We do not sell what Google tells us, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not pass it to anyone for their own use. The service providers who run our systems handle it for us, as described under Who sees it.
Once you are signed in, Clair holds your company's record: the documents added to it, and the names, identity numbers and nationalities of its officers, shareholders and controllers. Signing in sets cookies that keep you signed in and remember which company you are looking at.
You can remove Clair's access in your Google account settings at any time, and still sign in with the emailed link. To ask us to delete your account, or what Google told us about you, write to admin@clairsg.com. If you remove a document, it leaves your view, and we keep it with your company's record as set out under How long we keep it.
How long we keep it
We keep your waitlist entry until Clair opens and 12 months after, never more than two years from when you joined, or sooner if you ask us to delete it. If you go on to use Clair, your details become part of your company record and are kept for as long as that record is. Company records, the documents in them and the history of changes to them are kept for seven years, longer than the five years companies must keep accounting records. If you engage the firm, your engagement letter and the identity documents we collect then are kept for seven years after the engagement ends, even if you ask us to delete other information.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, at any time, by writing to admin@clairsg.com. You can withdraw your consent to any of the uses above the same way. We will answer within thirty days.
